AI camera leads to increase in City traffic violations

The City has recorded 39 lakh traffic violations this year

BENGALURU, 28 JUNE

 

 According to Bengaluru traffic police, the City traffic violations increased by 3.3 lakhs from last year. Speaking to Salar News, Joint Commissioner of Traffic, Bengaluru City Police,  MN Anucheth said introducing Artificial intelligence (AI) cameras has helped crack the violations. The City has recorded 39 lakh traffic violations this year. “We have used AI cameras in 50 locations around the City to enforce traffic rules,” he said. The 50 junctions include JP Nagar 35th main road 15 cross junction, Jayanagar  4th block, near Jayanagar bus stop, Koramangala Wipro park junction, RT Nagar Taralabalu junction.


As of now, there are a total of 330 cameras in these 50 locations which are capable of detecting seven types of traffic violations including, driving without a helmet, driving without a seat belt, and jumping traffic signals. According to the data, the most frequently committed traffic violation this year is riding without a helmet in which 16.7 lakh cases were registered. The least traffic violation is zig-zag driving with 33 violators booked. In 2023, around 17.52 lakh people were caught for riding without helmets and only 29 cases of zig-zag driving. The number of pillion riders without helmets was 3.4 lakh last year which increased to 10.85 lakh this year. Wrong parking cases were 4.93 lakh last year which is 4.36 lakh this year.
