BENGALURU, 26 JUNE

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Wednesday said that there will be no increase in auto and bus fares.  This comes after the City auto union demanded a revision of auto fares, proposing Rs 40 for the first 2 km and Rs 20 for each additional km.

Manju, President of Adarsha Auto and Taxi Drivers Union, told Salar News, “Auto and cab drivers in the City have been seeking alternatives to aggregators like Ola, Uber, and Rapido due to challenging work conditions, high fuel costs, high commissions, EMI repayments on their vehicles, and traffic congestion.”

Taxi unions are also requesting a fare revision and are planning to ask the government to raise the standard fare by Rs 1.50 per km.

Nataraj Sharma, President of Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Association told Salar News, “The fuel price has increased the burden on taxi drivers as this hike will significantly impact the commercial vehicle industry. The government should at least consider the price hike or come up with a government based app to monitor our incomes rather than providing our 50 per cent of the funds to the app aggregators.” -Salar News
