This year, frustrated by the flies causing illness and economic hardship, the villagers have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for anyone who can solve the problem.

The problem started in 2014 and the source of the flies is believed to be the numerous chicken farms operating near Hebbalu for decades. The village is located adjacent to Pune-Bangalore National Highway in Davangere. Villagers allege the farm owners, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, are influential and refuse to follow a proper waste management practices.

Despite appeals to local authorities over the years, no effective action has been taken.

With the onset of the rainy season, the situation in Hebbalu has become unbearable once again. The constant presence of flies has led to widespread illness among residents, impacting their health, livelihood, and overall well-being.
