State to host its 1st kayaking championship
This event will feature the 12th National Canoe Slalom Senior Men & Women Championship and the 11th National Canoe Slalom Junior Men & Women Championship

The State will host its first three-day national
championship of kayaking and canoeing on the Kali River in Dandeli, from 19
June to 21 June. This event will feature the 12th National Canoe Slalom Senior
Men & Women Championship and the 11th National Canoe Slalom Junior Men
& Women Championship.
A total of 118 kayaking and canoeing players from across the
nation, including 28 players from Karnataka, will participate in the
championships. The State government sports authority has sanctioned Rs 8 lakh
for this event, with additional support from the General Thimmaya Academy, the
Karnataka Olympic Association, and the Karnataka Kayaking and Canoeing
Association.
Speaking to Salar News, Captain Dilip Kumar, Secretary of
the Karnataka Kayaking and Canoeing Association, said, “We are contributing
nearly Rs 7 lakh extra to accommodate the championship.” This is in addition to
the amount allotted by the government. He said precautionary measures are also
in place, including rescue teams and essential equipment such as whistles,
bilge pumps, communication devices, and other safety gear. Around 25-30 local
volunteers have also come forward to assist.
“Karnataka has added free accommodation and free food for
all players and coaches,” Kumar said. The finals will be held on Friday. -Salar
