South Karnataka to get heavy rain till 18 May: IMD

South Karnataka is expected to receive rainfall between 115.5mm to 204.5mm of rain. Coastal regions will also see rains on 17 May, while Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka will join in the downpour from 18 May onwards.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru and Mysuru, warning of heavy rainfall expected to hit the state from 18 to 20 May.

 

South Karnataka is expected to receive rainfall between 115.5mm to 204.5mm of rain. Coastal regions will also see rains on 17 May, while Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka will join in the downpour from 18 May onwards.

 

According to IMD, while the skies will be generally cloudy with rain or thunder-showers on 18 May, the following days of 20 and 21 May will see a transition to partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain or thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to remain in a range of 23 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.

 

Meanwhile, several districts in Karnataka were lashed out by the rains on Thursday, bringing much respite from the summer heat. Intense thunderstorms and heavy rains were seen in Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Haveri, Dharwad, Belagavi, and Vijayapura. 


Shiggaon in Haveri received the highest rainfall at 71mm, followed by Kundol taluk in Dharwad at 62mm. Bengaluru’s eastern parts of the City, which have remained dry so far, are showing signs of rain activity. The IMD reports thunderstorm developments near Kodagu, Napoklu, Yemmemadu, Kunjila and Nelaji, Mulbagal and Hemavathi reservoirs. -Salar News
