5 students from City among 20 SSLC exam toppers

Five students from Bengaluru are in the top 20 of Class 10 (SSLC) exams, whose results were announced by Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board on Thursday.

English School, Banashankari, was the topper from the City, coming second in
the State. She is followed by Sourav Kaushik and Anita Anand Andewadikar from
VVS Sardar Patel English School, Rajajinagar, at 9th and 10th positions.
Dheeraj Preetam Reddy from St Claret High School, Jalahalli, came 11th while
Manyatha S Maiya from NET Public School, Srinijagunara Road, was at 12th
position.
Across the State, the pass
percentage has dropped by 10 percentage points. The State recorded a pass
percentage of 73.40 per cent this year, marking a dip from last year's 83.89
per cent. Ankita Basappa Konnur from Bagalkot achieved a perfect score of 625
out of 625, securing 100 per cent. Five students from the City scored 98 per
cent (623) in the examination.
The exams took place from 25 March
to 6 April, 2024 and around 8.5 lakh candidates — 4.36 lakh boys and
4.23 lakh girls — appeared for the examination. Of these, 2.87 lakh boys and
3.43 lakh girls have passed the exam.
Students from rural areas performed
better than those from urban areas in this year’s exam. The pass percentage of
the rural area students was recorded at 74.17 per cent (as compared to 87.38
per cent in 2023), and of urban area students was reported at 72.83 per cent
(as compared to 79.62 per cent in 2022).
The girls recorded a pass
percentage of 81 (as compared to 87.87 per cent in 2023) and boys recorded a
pass percentage of 65.90 (as compared to 80 per cent in 2023). The pass
percentage of boys in this year’s exam is the lowest recorded in the history of
the State.
Udupi topped among the districts
with a pass percentage of 94, followed by Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Kodagu
and Uttara Kannada. Yadgir district was at the bottom in terms of pass
percentage.
BBMP schools record 68 pass
percentage
BBMP schools in the City achieved a
pass percentage of 68 per cent. Of 2,502 students who appeared for the
examination, 1,721 passed at 68.78%. Chandana P from BBMP school at Srirampura
got 99 per cent, while Yashvanth TG from BBMP school at Laggere got 97 per cent
in the exams.
Chandana, daughter of a
clinic receptionist, told Salar News that she wants to be a doctor. "The
teachers at my BBMP school gave me individual guidance to do better in
exams," she said.
Yashvanth, son of a steel
factory worker and a garment worker, aims to become a scientist. He credited
the smart classes in their school for helping him understand concepts better.
