Bengaluru, 3 April

Several candidates including Bengaluru Central Congress candidate Mansoor Ali Khan and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje filed their nominations on Wednesday for 26 April Lok Sabha elections.

Khan, along with his wife Tasbia Khan, has declared assets totalling nearly Rs 100 crore.

Khan, 51, possesses liquid assets worth Rs 24.45 crore, and immovable assets valued at Rs 62.19 crore, while his wife holds wealth worth Rs 9.5 crore according to the affidavit filed during nominations.

Khan—politician, educationist, and community activist—confronts a formidable challenge in securing the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat, currently held by BJP since 2009. Khan is a trustee of the KK Educational and Charitable Trust established by his father K Rahman Khan, a former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

He led a rally from Prasanna Ganapati Devasthana, Sampangi Rama Nagara, to BBMP Head Office in Hudson Circle. Before filing his nomination, Khan, accompanied by his father K Rehman Khan, MLC Naseer Ahmed, and Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad, visited Hazrat Thawakkal Mastan Dargah at Cottonpet, Someshwara Temple at Ulsoor, and Infant Jesus Church at Viveka Nagar.

Khan expressed concerns about BJP's governance and criticized their attempts to change the Constitution. He has just one case registered against him in Secunderabad.

Karandlaje submitted her papers as BJP's candidate from Bengaluru North. She held a roadshow accompanied by former ministers Byrathi Basavaraj and Gopalaiah. Karandlaje has declared assets valued at about Rs 13.88 crore and has liabilities worth Rs 4.06 crore. She owns no agricultural land, and has only a two-wheeler, according to her affidavit.

Minister HC Mahadevappa's son Sunil Bose filed his nomination as Congress nominee from Chamarajanagar. He also held a roadshow accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Home Minister G Parameshwara.

K Jayaprakash Hegde, who was until recently the Chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes that submitted the much-awaited Socio-Economic and Education Survey report, popularly known as the "caste census" to the government, filed his nomination as Congress candidate in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru segment.

Congress candidate from Dakshina Kannada R Padmaraj also filed his papers.

Scion of erstwhile Mysuru royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar who had filed his nominations earlier, submitted another set of papers on Wednesday.
