Several candidates including
Bengaluru Central Congress candidate Mansoor Ali Khan and Union Minister Shobha
Karandlaje filed their nominations on Wednesday for 26 April Lok Sabha
elections.
Khan, along with his wife Tasbia Khan, has
declared assets totalling nearly Rs 100 crore.
Khan, 51, possesses liquid assets worth Rs
24.45 crore, and immovable assets valued at Rs 62.19 crore, while his wife
holds wealth worth Rs 9.5 crore according to the affidavit filed during
nominations.
Khan—politician, educationist, and community
activist—confronts a formidable challenge in securing the Bengaluru Central Lok
Sabha seat, currently held by BJP since 2009. Khan is a trustee of the KK
Educational and Charitable Trust established by his father K Rahman Khan, a
former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
He led a rally from Prasanna Ganapati
Devasthana, Sampangi Rama Nagara, to BBMP Head Office in Hudson Circle. Before
filing his nomination, Khan, accompanied by his father K Rehman Khan, MLC
Naseer Ahmed, and Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad, visited Hazrat Thawakkal
Mastan Dargah at Cottonpet, Someshwara Temple at Ulsoor, and Infant Jesus
Church at Viveka Nagar.
Khan expressed concerns about
BJP's governance and criticized their attempts to change the Constitution. He
has just one case registered against him in Secunderabad.
Karandlaje submitted her papers
as BJP's candidate from Bengaluru North. She held a roadshow accompanied by
former ministers Byrathi Basavaraj and Gopalaiah. Karandlaje has declared
assets valued at about Rs 13.88 crore and has liabilities worth Rs 4.06 crore.
She owns no agricultural land, and has only a two-wheeler, according to her
affidavit.
Minister HC Mahadevappa's son Sunil Bose filed
his nomination as Congress nominee from Chamarajanagar. He also held a roadshow
accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar
and Home Minister G Parameshwara.
K Jayaprakash Hegde, who was until recently
the Chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes that submitted
the much-awaited Socio-Economic and Education Survey report, popularly known as
the "caste census" to the government, filed his nomination as
Congress candidate in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru segment.

Scion of erstwhile Mysuru royal family
Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar who had filed his nominations earlier,
submitted another set of papers on Wednesday.
