Bengaluru, 1 April
Ahead of Lok Sabha elections,
Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) reduced the power tariff by
Rs 1.10 per unit for 2024- 25.
This is the first decrease in
electricity tariffs in State in 15 years. The new prices have come into effect
from 1 April.
This reduction will benefits
domestic consumers who utilise more than 100 units per month, as they now have
to only pay Rs 5.90 per unit, down from the previous Rs 7 per unit.
In 2022, the Karnataka Electricity
Regulatory Commission (KERC) announced a power tariff revision for the year
2022-23. This revision included an increase in energy charges by 5p per unit
and raised fixed charges by Rs 10 to Rs 30 per kilowatt. As a result, experts
estimate that an average household in Bengaluru will face an additional expense
of at least Rs 85 per month on their electricity bills due to the hike.
There will be no changes for those getting zero bills under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
