BENGALURU, 15 FEB

Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda inaugurated the marriage registration process, following the State cabinet's approval to amend the Hindu Marriage Registration Act, which will enable online registrations.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Gowda highlighted the convenience of the initiative. He said, “Now the individuals no longer need to visit the sub-registrar's office for registering their marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act. Instead, a certificate can be generated from the comfort of one's home by providing necessary documents such as the wedding invite, video, and Aadhaar details.”  He added that this move is another step towards transparency and efficient service delivery.

Earlier in the cabinet meeting on 2 February the government proposed allowing marriage registrations through the Kaveri 2.0 portal, as well as at GramOne and Bapuji Service Centers in rural areas.

Additionally, the State government has authorised the inspector general of registration and commissioner of stamps to utilise Aadhaar authentication for marriage registrations. This simplification aims to increase the number of marriage registrations, strengthen the registration process, and reduce the risks associated with identity impersonation and fraudulent registrations.
