A mother leopard and her cub got stuck in a
300-metre-long water pipe in Ramanahalli, Yelwala Hobli. The incident
occurred on Sunday when the leopards, in search of food, accidently entered the
empty pipe designed for draining water from the canal. The locals notified the
forest department about the trapped leopards.
Upon receiving the distress call, forest department
officials along with a specialised leopard capture operation team and
veterinarians rushed to the location. The team safely caught the leopards by
sedating them.
After the successful capture, the health of the leopards was
thoroughly examined and were later released back into the forest.
Range Forest Officer Surendra, who led the operation
explained that the area had witnessed a similar incident last year when a
leopard was stuck in the same pipeline. Leopards often venture into these areas
as people from surrounding villages bring cattle, sheep, and goats for grazing.
The rescue operation carried out with the participation of
Assistant Conservator of Forest Laxmikant and Veterinarian Dr Madan coordinated
with the forest department in ensuring the safety of wildlife.
