Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer marked his return to competitive cricket with a composed half-century, guiding his side to 299/9 in a truncated 33-over Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
Asked to bat first, Mumbai were jolted early with Yashasvi Jaiswal departing for 15. Musheer Khan provided stability with a fluent 73 off 51 deliveries, striking eight boundaries and three sixes to keep the innings on track.
Sarfaraz Khan added late momentum with a brisk 21 from 10 balls before Iyer joined Musheer to stitch together a decisive 82-run partnership. The Mumbai skipper paced his knock smartly, scoring 82 off 53 balls, laced with ten fours and three sixes, before being dismissed by Kushal Pal.
Suryakumar Yadav, leading India in T20Is, chipped in with 24 off 18 balls but once again failed to build on his start. Mumbai crossed 220 by the 26th over, setting the foundation for a strong total.
Late contributions from Shivam Dube, Sairaj Patil and Hardik Tamore pushed Mumbai close to the 300-run mark. For Himachal Pradesh, Vaibhav Arora, Abhishek Kumar and Kushal Pal claimed three wickets each.
Himachal Pradesh will need 300 runs in 33 overs to register a win against the Mumbai side.
