India's history-making Sepak Takraw team eyes medal at Asian Games 2026
India's men's regu team won a historic gold medal by defeating Japan 2-1 at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 in Patna. The team won seven medals including one gold, one silver and five bronze. Future goals set for the 2026 Asian Games.

The historic gold medal won by the Indian men's
regu team at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 in Patna, Bihar is the result of
many years of training at various centres of the Sports Authority of India
(SAI). India defeated Japan 2-1 in a dramatic final at the competition held at
the Patliputra Indoor Stadium from 20 to 25 March.
The Indian contingent returned home with a total of seven medals,
including one gold, one silver and five bronze. The men's regu team won the
gold medal, while the women's doubles team won the silver medal.
The men's doubles team, women's regu team, mixed quad team, women's quad team and men's quad team won bronze medals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded their win, saying, "This stellar performance indicates a promising future for India in the global Sepak Takraw arena."
Looking at the future challenges, the STC Bawana-based coach said,
"Our next big goal is to win a medal for India at the 2026 Asian Games.
Before that, we have the Men's Asia Cup in Malaysia in May and the World
Championships in Bangkok, Thailand in July. Our aim is to maintain our
consistency in all these upcoming events."
