Karnataka is the second largest
State in terms of tax collection from Goods and Service Tax (GST) after
Maharashtra.
The State celebrated the seventh
anniversary of National Goods & Service Tax Day, commemorating the
successful implementation of GST at the Income tax Office, in Bengaluru.
The theme for the event was
‘Sashakt Bharat, Samagra Vikaas’ and it discussed the achievements as well as
the challenges faced by the State in terms of implementation, collection,
classification and evaluation of GST.
The major challenges faced by the
State in terms of implementation and collection of GST were to balance the
convergence of the financial sector with the technological sector.
The event appreciated the efforts
of 2,500 tax officials who collected Rs 1 lakh crore of the State’s
contribution to the exchequer.
The State collected Rs 76,000 crore
revenue from GST in the last year with a growth rate of 23 per cent. In the last three months, the State collected
revenue worth Rs 21,000 crore with a growth rate of 12 per cent.
With over 4.10 lakh taxpayers, Karnataka
is the third largest zone in terms of taxpayers.
Karnataka High Court Justice
Krishna Dixit said that, "The tax collected by the officers over what the
law has sanctioned needs to be discharged and the taxpayers need to be treated
with due respect."
He also stressed the fact that
while collecting the tax, the difficulty of the taxpayers should also be kept
in mind. Salar News
