Shia Muslims in India observed Ashura on the 10th day of Muharram, the1st month of the Islamic calendar. Muharram is a period of mourning that commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE
