Chandigarh, 28 Jan

Schools in Chandigarh and Gurugram and district courts in Chhattisgarh were placed on high alert on Wednesday after receiving bomb threat emails, prompting evacuations and security checks across the three regions.

As many as 26 government and private schools in Chandigarh received threat emails in the morning, leading to the evacuation of students and staff and the deployment of bomb disposal and sniffer dog squads.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said calls were received from 26 schools and anti-sabotage checks in 10 institutions found nothing suspicious so far, with searches continuing elsewhere.

An FIR has been registered at Sector 17 police station, and the cyber team is examining the Gmail account used to send the threats. Authorities advised schools and parents to remain calm.

In Gurugram, at least six private schools received threat emails at 7.10am. Police said campuses were evacuated and searched, with bomb squads, sniffer dogs and SDRF teams deployed. No suspicious objects have been found, officials said.

Meanwhile, three district courts in Chhattisgarh, Rajnandgaon, Ambikapur and Jagdalpur, were evacuated after anonymous emails threatened explosions. Police conducted thorough searches and said nothing suspicious was detected. Investigations are under way to trace the source of the emails.
