Varanasi cop assaulted by BJP corporator’s son, crowd turns on accused
Police registered a case and sent the accused to jail after the Chowk incident.

Varanasi, 2 Jan
A police sub-inspector was allegedly slapped by the son of a BJP corporator in Varanasi, following which the accused was beaten up by people present at the scene, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening under the Chowk police station limits.
Police intervened, rescued the accused and took him to the station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Banswal said a case has been registered against Himanshu Srivastava, son of Hukulganj BJP corporator Brijesh Chandra Srivastava. He added that the accused is being sent to jail.
