The civil aviation ministry is analysing the report submitted by a probe panel that examined the recent large-scale flight disruptions involving IndiGo, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, Naidu said the report has been received and is being reviewed, along with inputs from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). “We are analysing the report, taking further comments from the DGCA, and will follow up on the action to be taken,” he said.
The inquiry committee, headed by DGCA Joint Director General Sanjay K Bramhane, was constituted on December 5 to carry out a detailed assessment of the circumstances that led to the disruptions. Officials said the panel submitted its report on Friday evening.
Earlier this month, IndiGo cancelled more than 1,600 flights in a single day, followed by several days of large-scale cancellations. Inadequate planning in implementing revised pilot rest norms was cited as a key factor behind the disruptions.
Following the incident, the DGCA directed IndiGo to cut its winter schedule by 10 per cent and issued show-cause notices to the airline’s chief executive officer Pieter Elbers and chief operating officer Isidre Porqueras.
In its December 5 order setting up the panel, the DGCA said the situation prima facie pointed to gaps in internal oversight, operational preparedness and compliance planning, warranting an independent examination. The regulator also noted that it had issued repeated directions to the airline on timely preparation for implementing the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms.
