A 25-year-old woman, identified
as Madhuri Sahitibai, daughter of an IAS officer, died by suicide at her parental
home in Tadepalli, Guntur district, after previously alleging dowry harassment,
police said.
Her
parents broke open the bathroom door when she did not come out for a long time
and found her hanging, police stated. “Madhuri Sahitibai, 25, daughter of an
IAS officer, was found dead at her parental home on Sunday after previously
making dowry harassment allegations,” Mangalagiri DSP Murali Krishna told PTI.
A case
has been registered under Section 80 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which
pertains to dowry deaths.
According
to police, Sahitibai had fallen in love with Rajesh Naidu from Bugganapalli in
Betancharala Mandal of Nandyal district. She had earlier discontinued her BTech
course due to backlogs. The couple married on 5 March and informed both families
on 7 March, with the marriage registered later.
Police
said she had called her parents alleging dowry harassment a few months ago,
following which they brought her back to their home in the first week of
September. She had been living with them since then, they added.
