On 27 June, 19-year-old Sandhya Chaudhary, a Class 12 student, was murdered inside the government district hospital in Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh. The accused, Abhishek Koshti, reportedly obsessed with her, attacked her inside the emergency wing in full public view. Mobile footage shows him slapping her, throwing her to the ground, pinning her by sitting on her chest, and then slitting her throat with a knife. The attack lasted around 10 minutes. Despite the presence of doctors, nurses, ward boys, and two security guards, no one intervened. Some hospital staff were seen walking past as she lay bleeding.

Sandhya had gone to visit a friend’s sister-in-law in the maternity ward around 2pm. Abhishek, who had been loitering at the hospital since noon, confronted her near room number 22. After the murder, he tried to slit his own throat, failed, fled on a bike, and escaped. Her family was informed at around 3.30pm, and by the time they arrived, her body was still at the scene. Of the 11 trauma ward patients, 8 took discharge that day; the others left the next morning. The family protested by blocking the road outside the hospital. The protest was calmed by 10.30pm, but tensions rose again until 2am, when officials assured strict action.
