Notorious Pune gangster Shahrukh Sheikh, alias Hatti, was killed in a police encounter early Sunday in Lamboti village near Mohol, Solapur. Wanted under BNS Sections 308(2) and 329(3) for assaulting a food delivery agent and robbing him, Shahrukh had been absconding for months. He was also linked to the assault of a senior citizen in Sayyednagar. Acting on a tip-off, a Pune Police team traced him and launched an operation. When Shahrukh opened fire, police retaliated, fatally injuring him. He was declared dead at Solapur District Hospital. His accomplice, Noman Sayyed, had already been arrested. Police officers may have been injured.
