PM laud State farmer for growing apples in plains
PM Modi lauds Indian farmers innovations including apple farming in Karnataka and highlights tree plantation drive success

In the 121st episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the innovative spirit of Indian farmers, with special mention of a groundbreaking effort in Karnataka, apple cultivation in the plains.
Highlighting the inspiring story of Shail Teli from Kulali village in Bagalkot, Modi said, 'Usually we think apples are grown only in the mountains. But Teli ji has grown apples in temperatures above 35°C, something once thought impossible.' Teli’s success has not only surprised many but also brought him good income from selling the apples.
The Prime Minister praised Karnataka’s role in redefining traditional agriculture, demonstrating how determination and innovation can overcome climatic limitations.
Modi also mentioned other innovations across India, including saffron cultivation using aeroponics in Wayanad, Kerala, and litchi farming in Tamil Nadu’s Kodaikanal by Thiru Veera Arasu, after seven years of effort.
He concluded with an update on the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, under which over 140 crore trees have been planted across India in the past year. The campaign, dedicated to mothers and Mother Earth, will mark its first anniversary on World Environment Day, 5 June.
