A 25-year-old man
has been arrested for creating nuisance inside a Delhi Metro train by
pretending to drink alcohol and eat eggs to gain attention on social media.
Akash Kumar, a
resident of Shahdara, was arrested by the metro police following a complaint
received from Amar Dev, senior station manager of Karkardooma metro station, on
8 April, they said.
In the viral video, Kumar was seen drinking alcohol from a bottle and eating a peeled egg in a metro train headed towards Maujpur on the Pink Line, they said.
Acting on the complaint, the police coordinated with DMRC staff, CISF personnel and housekeeping staff and shared the video internally to identify the suspect.
After sustained efforts, Kumar was nabbed from Burari, the official said. During interrogation, he told that he had recorded the video on 23 March at around 10 pm while going from Welcome to Karkardooma Court metro station.
He admitted that the bottle contained a soft drink and that he did this drama to gain popularity on social media. Legal action has been initiated against him under section 59 of the Delhi Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, police said.
