Kolkata, 1 April
A bomb threat created a stir at the Indian Museum here on 1 April,
following which security personnel launched a search operation. The museum has
been closed for visitors until approval from the police is received.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for the security
of the museum, informed the New Market police station, following which an
intensive search was launched, they said.
According to officials, museum officials received an email claiming that
bombs would be planted in the museum on 1 April. However, the message did not
give the exact location.
"There are more than 51 rooms in the museum, which are being
searched by security personnel. No suspicious object has been found so
far," a police official said.
The footpath of the Indian Museum, located on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, has been cordoned off with railings. Onlookers speculated that it might be a Fool's Day prank.
