In the Assembly, Fadnavis blamed Vicky Kaushal-starrer film ‘Chhaava’ for the riots; however he had earlier attended the screening of the same movie in Mumbai
More than 50 people have been taken into custody, Five FIRs
registered and curfew imposed in parts of Nagpur, a day after protests against
Aurangzeb’s tomb triggered violence in the city.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed it was
premeditated.
Speaking in the Assembly on Tuesday, Fadnavis was quick to
blame the Vicky Kaushal-starrer film ‘Chhaava’.
He said ‘Chhaava’, which is based on the life of Chhatrapati
Sambhaji Maharaj, reignited people's emotions against the Mughal emperor and
brought before them the true history of the Maratha king.
"Demands are being raised about Aurangzeb's grave, a
movement is going on. The grave has been there for 500 years, but after
watching the ‘Chhaava’ movie, the way he murdered Sambhaji Maharaj, that has made
people angry," Union Minister Ramdas Athawale told reporters outside
Parliament.
However, the release of ‘Chhaava’ initially garnered strong
support from the BJP and its leaders. The film was even made tax-free in
BJP-ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh, Goa, and Chhattisgarh. Chief
Minister Fadnavis himself attended a special screening of the movie in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said it won’t tolerate any
attempts to glorify Aurangzeb and claimed the Nagpur violence was planned.
Violence erupted in central Nagpur's Chitnis Park in Mahal
area on Monday around 7.30 pm, with stones hurled at police amid rumours that
the holy book of a community was burnt during an agitation by Bajrang Dal for
the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, officials said.
As many as 34 cops were injured in the violence.

Nagpur was part of a planned conspiracy.
Congress leader Karti Chidambaram said it was unfortunate
that in 21st-century India, people are agitating over the history of the 17th
and 18th centuries.
Azad Samaj Party MP Chandra Shekhar said the government was
trying to distract attention from issues of unemployment and poverty.
"Riots, whether in Nagpur, Manipur, or Uttar Pradesh,
are not good. There should be strict action against those who are behind the
violence, whether they are BJP leaders or Congress leaders..." Congress MP
Chandra Shekhar said.
Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange claimed that violence
was "sponsored" by the Mahayuti government and Fadnavis for the.
