Twenty-seven years after 'Fight Club' taught us all the first rule of Fight Club, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton broke it spectacularly, by simply showing up to a football match together.

The two actors were spotted sharing a suite at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood for the USA-Turkiye World Cup clash on Thursday, and the internet did what the internet does best: it lost its mind.

Within minutes, social media had turned a casual hangout into a full-blown 'Fight Club' reunion tour. One social media account quipped that Norton appeared to be "talking to no one at the World Cup tonight," while even ESPN's SportsCenter joined the fun with a similar dig. For the uninitiated, the joke hinges on the film's twist - Pitt's character, Tyler Durden, turns out to be a figment of Norton's character's imagination.

Naturally, the "you do not talk about Fight Club" rule got dusted off too, with several pages joking that the duo were probably honouring it in real life at the stadium.

It didn't stop there. The sighting also sparked a wave of hopeful speculation about a 'Fight Club' sequel, with fans asking online whether the pairing meant a follow-up was secretly in the works. There is, for the record, no confirmed 'Fight Club 2' in development, and neither actor has said anything about reprising their roles.

As for the actual football: Turkiye ultimately edged out the co-hosts 3-2. The result barely registered online compared to the Pitt-Norton meme storm, though USA's loss didn't cost them their spot in the next round, where they're set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The two were far from the only famous faces in the stands. Paris Hilton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ashton Kutcher and NBA legend Scottie Pippen were also spotted soaking in the World Cup atmosphere, but it was the 'Fight Club' reunion that won the internet's vote for moment of the match.
