Actor Chitrangada Singh, who will be seen opposite Salman Khan in the upcoming war drama Battle of Galwan, has described the superstar as someone who is “unapologetically himself” in an industry where, she said, many people tend to “wear masks”.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia of Shootout at Lokhandwala fame, Battle of Galwan is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between India and China.
In an interview to PTI, Singh said Khan’s biggest strength lies in his lack of pretence and his deep understanding of what his fans expect from him.
“He is very tuned into what his fans want him to be, and he is exactly what they love. There is zero pretension. I haven’t come across anyone in the industry like that,” she said, adding that Khan speaks and acts entirely on his own terms.
Without revealing details of her role, Singh praised Khan’s spontaneous approach to acting, calling it refreshing and secure.
“He loves to improvise. Scenes keep evolving till they finally feel right. It’s fun because everyone is enjoying the process. That spontaneity comes very effortlessly to him,” she said.
The actor added that while many performers do things “for effect”, Khan’s authenticity sets him apart and explains his enduring popularity with audiences.
Singh also recalled an earlier collaboration that did not materialise. She said she was once set to work with Khan on a project he was planning to produce, a remake of a Marathi film to be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, with Govinda in the lead.
“That was around 2016-17. The film never took off, and we didn’t really discuss work after that,” she said.
Singh is currently receiving praise for her latest release Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, directed by Honey Singh, which also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Ila Arun, Rajat Kapoor, Deepti Naval and Revathi, among others.
Battle of Galwan is scheduled for release on April 17, 2026.
