Bollywood socialite and influencer Orhan Awatramani, commonly known as Orry,
appeared before Mumbai Police on Wednesday to record his statement in the
₹252-crore mephedrone seizure case, officials said.
Orry reached the Ghatkopar unit of the
Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) around 1.30 pm. He had earlier been asked to appear
last Thursday but had sought additional time.
Police said his name surfaced during the
interrogation of Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh, a key accused in the
case. Shaikh allegedly claimed he organised rave parties in India and abroad
for several film and fashion celebrities, a politician, and a relative of
fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Orry was among those he named, according to
investigators.
The probe has widened in recent days. Before
Orry’s appearance, Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor’s brother Siddhanth Kapoor visited the ANC office on Tuesday for
questioning.
Shaikh, nicknamed ‘Lavish’ for his extravagant
lifestyle, was deported from Dubai last month and arrested after mephedrone
worth ₹252 crore was seized from a clandestine factory in Maharashtra’s Sangli
district. He was reportedly a close aide of Salim Dola, who supervised
mephedrone manufacturing and distribution across India.
