Kolkata, 11 Sept
Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files’ will have its first Kolkata screening on 13 September at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bhasha Bhavan, National Library, despite not being shown in regular theatres in West Bengal amid an unofficial theatre ban.
The private, invitation-only event, scheduled for 4 PM, is organised by Khola Hawa and announced by former MP Swapan Dasgupta. Several theatres reportedly refused to screen the film, citing political pressure and fears of unrest.
The film, the third instalment in Agnihotri’s Files trilogy, explores controversial episodes from Bengal’s history, including the Direct Action Day riots.
The cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi.
