New Delhi, 25 March
British designer brand Vivienne Westwood is set to host their first fashion
show in India on 1 April against the backdrop of Mumbai's Gateway of India.
Westwood created the eponymous fashion empire, largely responsible for bringing
modern punk and new wave fashion into the mainstream.
In collaboration with the Department of Textiles of Maharashtra, the showcase will present a selection of Spring Summer 2025 and exclusive archive pieces. Among these will be a capsule collection of Vivienne Westwood Couture looks crafted from handwoven Indian silk, khadi cotton and wool sourced from textile houses such as Khadi India and Aranya, Gwalior. In a similar fashion French brand Dior showcased its fall collection in Mumbai back in 2023.
The event will also pay tribute to the late Vivienne
Westwood, who died on 29 December 2022 in Clapham, London, at the age of 81.
Just two weeks before her death, she handed over the reins of her fashion
empire to fashion designer Jeff Banks and her husband Andreas Kronthaler. Jeff
Banks has since been ousted from the business. The top management of the
fashion house is currently in turmoil.
