  • Blake Lively is embroiled in a legal battle related to her film It Ends With Us.

Bengaluru, 22 March,

Couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will not attend the annual fashion event Met Gala this year. Lively and Reynolds served as co-chairs of the 2022 Met Gala alongside Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The couple's decision to skip this year's event comes amid an ongoing legal battle over Lively's film 'It Ends With Us'. In December, Lively filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against director and co-star Justin Baldoni and his co-producers, after which Baldoni filed a USD 400 million defamation suit against Lively, Reynolds and their team.

As of now Livelys' leagal team argues that Baldoni's claims should be dismissed under California's Assembly Bill 933, a 2023 amendment that provides legal protections to individuals who report allegations of sexual misconduct, provided their statements are made without malice. The law, specifically designed to prevent the weaponization of defamation lawsuits in retaliation for speaking out, has been viewed as a crucial safeguard in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

The couple is known for not taking themselves too seriously in the public eye. Reynolds was once seen using the character of "Nicepool" in 'Deadpool and Wolverine' to mock Baldoni's "woke feminist" reputation. The actor also made a subtle nod to the ongoing legal drama during Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary special. At any rate, fans will miss Blake's iconic fashion moment this year. She is known to turn heads at the event with her interpretation of each year's theme. Notably, she paid homage to New York City in 2022 with a stunning gown and tiara as shown below.

The 2025 Met Gala, scheduled for May 5, will be themed 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', inspired by Monica L. Miller's book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The exhibition will feature a variety of costumes, paintings, photographs and more that showcase the indelible style of black men in the context of fashion.
