Bengaluru, 15 October

Bengaluru’s South City Corporation has identified 1,000 garbage blackspots with AI-enabled cameras mounted on a vehicle, and its Commissioner, KN Ramesh, on Thursday directed officials to clean these within 10 days.

The 1,000 hotspots were identified after the Corporation conducted a pilot survey in collaboration with Chitragupt Urban Technologies Pvt Ltd, an urban development firm that specialises in AI, across 150km of roads using AI-based equipment. The Corporation has a total of 311km of roads.

“The technology identified garbage black spots, potholes, footpath encroachments, construction waste, unauthorised optical fibre cables and other civic issues, generating 2,000 digital tickets for timely redressal,” the GBA stated in a release.

Officials must use the Anveshak app to resolve complaints and upload geo-tagged photographs to close tickets.

The GBA stated that the AI camera-equipped vehicles will revisit previously identified issues and detect new ones every 30 days.

Depending on the success of this project, it may be expanded.
