A 28-year-old pregnant woman police constable was attacked with an iron rod inside Bengaluru City Railway Police Station by a man upset over a delay in registering his complaint, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 5.10am on 26 August when the accused entered the police station and told constable Shilpa D that his mobile phone, which he had left to charge, had been stolen.

According to the FIR, she asked him to wait for the station officer. The accused later returned to find her alone, asked why she had not taken his complaint, and threatened to kill her.

He picked up an iron rod attached to a heavy barricade wheel and struck her head six to seven times before fleeing, the FIR said.

Shilpa was initially taken to Manipal Hospital and later shifted to Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar. She is out of danger, police said.

Based on her complaint, a case was registered under several BNS sections, and an investigation had been launched, police said.

The accused, Ganjendra, has since been arrested, they added.
