Bengaluru, 26 June

An FIR has been registered against the driver of a school van after a video went viral online showing at least five children falling onto a road in Bengaluru when the vehicle's rear door suddenly opened while it was in motion, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred in Gayatri Layout in Bengaluru, was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the locality. The van was transporting school children and reportedly hit a pothole. The impact is believed to have caused the rear door to swing open, which resulted in five children seated at the back being thrown onto the road.

According to the police, the children escaped with only minor injuries as there was no traffic on the stretch at the time of the incident and they were provided immediate medical attention by residents.

The traffic police later seized the van as part of the investigation. Officials said that they are examining the exact circumstances that led to the rear door opening, including whether there was any mechanical failure or negligence on the part of the vehicle driver.

Further investigation is underway.
