The State government has partnered with the Azim Premji Foundation to establish a multi-speciality hospital in Bengaluru.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced
that the Foundation intends to invest Rs 4,000 crore over five years for the
hospital's development.
An
agreement was signed between the Department of Medical Education and the Azim
Premji Foundation for the creation and management of a 1,000-bed charitable
super speciality and multi-organ transplant hospital. Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, Foundation CEO Anurag Behar, and other
dignitaries attended the signing ceremony.
The
hospital aims to provide high-quality care to underserved populations, with 75
per cent of its beds offered at zero cost. The remaining beds will be priced
similarly to government tertiary hospitals. The facility will focus on organ
transplantation and will contribute to medical education and research.
The Foundation will cover all capital and operating costs, with the hospital established on government-owned land. Siddaramaiah expressed gratitude to Azim Premji for his philanthropic efforts. He acknowledged the Foundation’s longstanding commitment to education and health, reiterating its various initiatives, including scholarships for students in government colleges.
