K'taka CM announces Rs 6 cr reward for Olympic winners

Chief
Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the government would provide Rs 6 crore
for any State athlete who wins a gold medal in the Olympics.
“If a
Karnataka person wins gold in the Olympic Games, I will give them Rs 6 crores,”
Siddaramaiah said at the award presentation ceremony of Karnataka Olympic 2025
in Bengaluru on Sunday. “If a Karnataka person wins silver, I will provide them
with Rs 4 crores, and Rs 3 crores for a bronze. The purpose is that anyone from
Karnataka should win gold or silver, it is possible.”
He noted
that the government is prioritising sports.
“We have
also provided reservations for athletes in government recruitments,” he added.
“In the Police and Forest Departments, 3 per cent reservation, and in other
departments, 2 per cent reservation will be provided for athletes.”
“In
January, a government order will be issued for recruitment to government jobs
under sports reservation,” he added, saying that more youth should participate in
the sports sector.
Home Minister G Parameshwara praised the Karnataka Olympic Association, adding that “the Chief Minister has provided a good building for the Kanteerava Stadium Olympic Association. As far as I know, no other Olympic organisation in the country has its own building.”
