In a significant
operation, the City police thwarted a kidnapping plot aimed at extorting Rs 1
crore from a local businessman by threatening to abduct his son. The police
reports indicate that the mastermind, a local businessman embroiled in a
financial dispute with the victim, conspired with three associates from Delhi
to execute the plan. The accused intended to make a ransom threat masquerading
as notorious gang members from North India.
The victim
reported the threat call on 9 July, prompting police to conduct an
investigation. Authorities formed specialised teams from the Central Division
and Central Crime Branch. A local businessman on JC Road was apprehended on 12
July after confessing his involvement and revealing the conspiracy to recover
alleged debts.
With assistance
from Delhi police, the three hired accomplices were captured in the national
capital. City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh noted the case was
resolved within 48 hours, ensuring the crime was not executed. He confirmed
that security measures have been implemented for the victim, and investigations
into possible weapons possession by the accused continue.
