A 26-year-old woman died and her mother was injured after
the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck on a
flyover in Yelahanka on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Priya, a resident of
Yelahanka New Town. Her mother, Malathi, sustained minor injuries and is
receiving treatment at a hospital.
The incident occurred around 9.45 pm, as the two were
returning home from shopping on Commercial Street. While travelling via Hebbal,
their auto-rickshaw crashed into an Eicher Canter truck parked without hazard
lights or reflectors on the BB Road flyover near Attide Hotel.
The impact caused the auto to overturn, fatally injuring
Priya, who died on the spot from severe head and neck trauma. Malathi escaped
with bruises.
Initial investigations by Yelahanka Traffic Police
suggest the goods vehicle was parked negligently on the flyover. The
auto-rickshaw driver, allegedly speeding, failed to spot the truck in time to
avoid the collision.
Police have registered a case of death due to negligence against both the truck and auto drivers.
