A 26-year-old women's volleyball coach and national-level basketball and volleyball athlete allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Adugodi on Wednesday morning, police said.

The deceased, Soniya, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. The incident came to light around 10.00am when her family members went to call her for breakfast, only to discover her unresponsive. Her family rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.

Adugodi police, who have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR), said the reasons behind her extreme step remain unclear. "The cause of suicide is yet to be determined. Investigations are ongoing," an officer told Salar News. The family has declined to speak to the media.

Soniya was an accomplished athlete, having played in state and national-level basketball and volleyball tournaments for the past eight years. She was looking forward to participating in an international tournament in Dubai next month.
