BENGALURU, 25 JUNE
After the State government
increased the petrol and diesel prices, now Karnataka Milk Federation has
decided to increase prices by Rs 2 per litre in Bengaluru.
Previously, each packet of milk
contained 500 ml and now consumers will get 550 ml of milk.
The hike has broader implications
for those living below the poverty line. Speaking to Salar News Anitha Santosh
Kumar, a resident of Padmanabhnagar, said, "I work as a maid in
households. The price increase is a burden. The additional 50 ml doesn't make
much of a difference when we are struggling with the rising costs of other
essentials as well.”
However, not all homemakers are as
worried. Surekha Prasad P, a homemaker from Banashankari, said, "Given the
current inflation, a Rs 2 increase is manageable, and the
extra milk will help stretch our budget a bit further."
Another homemaker Meera Rao from Banaswadi told
Salar News, "The additional 50 ml is a small but welcome benefit,
especially in large families. It's reassuring that despite the price hike, we
get more milk as well in return.”
Incidentally, the milk price hike
is unlikely to affect food prices at restaurants.
When asked about the price hike,
President of Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association PC Rao assured that despite
the price hike, there will be no increase in the prices of food items. “As of
now, there will not be any increase in the prices of tea or coffee or any of
the food items that use milk products, in any of the hotels or
restaurants. This is because the price increase was very minimal and we are
getting extra milk (50 ml). This will not affect us to a large extent,” he
said. -Salar News
