Bengaluru, 1 June

The 16th edition of Bhoomi Habba is set to return on 8 June, at Visthar’s campus in Bengaluru.  Bhoomi Habba is an annual event organised by Visthar, which is a secular Civil Society Organisation.

The event is a celebration dedicated to environmental consciousness and fostering sustainable alternatives.

This year's Bhoomi Habba will focus on the critical issue of water scarcity in the City. "Bhoomi Habba serves as a catalyst for positive change," says Mercy Kappen, Executive Director of Visthar.

"It's a space where everyone can come together, share ideas, and discover ways to contribute to a sustainable future." From upcycling workshops to discovering organic produce and enjoying art that celebrates nature, the festival inspires individuals to become active participants in finding eco-friendly solutions, she added.

According to a press release by Visthar, this year's theme highlights the severe water shortage in Bengaluru, where the City grapples with a daily deficit of approximately 500 million litres.

Bhoomi Habba aims to spark conversations on innovative water conservation and management strategies. Through interactive exhibits, workshops, and panel discussions, participants can engage with experts and community leaders to learn about rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and adopting water-efficient technologies.

The event boasts a diverse range of activities, including folk dance performances by the Timbuktu Theatre Troupe, electrifying Djembe beats by the Indian Folk Band, film screenings on environmental issues, and thought-provoking theatre plays.

It began as part of an international peace programme and later transformed into a celebration of ecological well-being and eco-justice.

Visitors can expect a day filled with environmental campaigns, exhibitions showcasing sustainable practices, art workshops, theatre and dance performances, storytelling sessions, and melodious folk music. The festival also features a marketplace brimming with eco-friendly crafts, organic farm produce, and traditional delicacies from across India. Salar News
