BENGALURU, 12 MAY

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, Bengaluru City Police has set up a dedicated daycare designed for women police officers and women staffers at the Commissioner's office. The daycare centre is part of Project Rashmi, an initiative by the Bengaluru Smart City Limited (BenSCL). Female officers can now leave their children in the care of trained professionals while they attend to their responsibilities.

The initiative will benefit nearly 1,000 women employees. The newly established lounge also marks a significant upgrade from previous facilities. In 2022, the women's lounge at the Commissionerate was the third of its kind under Project Rashmi, but it lacked essential amenities such as a first-aid kit, baby changing station, and reading materials.

Sheela Kumari, a woman constable said on a video published by City police on X, "I have a 6-year-old and it is difficult to manage my kids during the working hours. But now this lounge will help me to go visit whenever I want to."

Suma, another constable said, “I have to pay Rs 3,000 at the day care centre and if my child stays longer, I had to pay extra but now it becomes more flexible and now I can visit her during my free time.”

The newly renovated lounge now offers a variety of amenities, including resting beds, toys for children, and a fully equipped kitchen, fostering a supportive environment for officers and their families. Additionally, there is a designated space where lactating mothers can conveniently heat or store their milk using the microwave or fridge.

The lounge is not exclusively for police personnel but is also for women clerks and housekeeping staffers. This lounge will now benefit a significant portion of the control room staffers, who work round the clock in shifts. Additionally, the housekeeping staff is entirely female and provides easy access and support for all employees, regardless of their role or working hours.

The day care is located within the Commissioner of Police office premises. Officers can now leave their children with trained professionals while they attend to their responsibilities. Salar News
