A 28-year-old labourer has been
diagnosed with cholera and admitted to KC General Hospital in Malleswaram on
Wednesday.
The City has seen a surge in
cholera cases since March. Out of 49 cases reported in the State over the two
months, 41 were reported in Bengaluru only. Of the 49 cases, 48 have been
discharged, while one remains under medical care.
The Health Department is
investigating the quality of drinking water in the City and collecting samples
from the hostels, hospitals, parks and hotels.
BBMP has intensified health
education campaigns to enhance public awareness about disease transmission and
sanitation practices. Additionally, water samples have been collected for
testing, with results awaited from the Public Health Institute Lab in the City.
Due to the rising heat, there were
concerns of typhoid and gastroenteritis in the City. State Public Health
Officer attached to Health Department said: “There has been no spike
in the typhoid and gastroenteritis cases in the government hospitals yet. We
have collaborated with BWSSB to prevent further cases and zero bacterial
treated water has been employed to reduce the risk of cholera, typhoid and
gastroenteritis. Currently, we have taken samples from all the private
establishments and the quality of water will be out soon.”
Doctors are advising people to not
consume water directly from taps, open wells, or untreated sources and also to
avoid consuming raw or undercooked food. —Salar News
