BENGALURU, 17 APRIL
In the wake of adverse weather
conditions, flight operations between Mangaluru and Bengaluru airports to Dubai
and Sharjah have faced disruptions, causing inconvenience to travellers. The
inclement weather, characterized by heavy rain and thunderstorms, has prompted
authorities to take precautionary measures, resulting in the cancellation and
delay of several flights.
Two flights, one operated by
Emirates and the other by Indigo from Bengaluru airport, were cancelled on
Wednesday. Additionally, an inbound flight from Dubai to KIA faced a 20-minute
delay. Another AirArabia flight destined for Sharjah was cancelled on Wednesday.
Passengers scheduled to fly from
Mangaluru International Airport and Kempegowda International Airport in
Bengaluru to Dubai International Airport and Sharjah International Airport have
been advised to stay updated with their respective airlines for revised travel
arrangements. Several flights operated by major airlines such as Emirates,
IndiGo and Spice Jet have been either cancelled or rescheduled to mitigate the
impact of the severe weather conditions.
Flooding and road closures have
limited transport options for travellers. Flights are delayed, diverted, and
impacted by displaced crew members, with recovery expected to take time.
Stranded passengers are being provided with drinks and meals where possible.
The airport authority, alongside emergency response teams and service partners,
is working tirelessly to resolve the situation.
“I was supposed to return to work
in Dubai after a brief fortnight vacation at home here in Bengaluru and now I
will have to wait for updates from the airlines and it could be a couple of
days more before the regular flights resume. I was told the Dubai Airport is
flooded and the runway has been out of bounds,’’ said Sylvester Marcus, a
business development manager based in Dubai.—Salar News
