BENGALURU, 15 APRIL

A youth died and two were critically injured after the motorbike they were riding fell into a 20-foot pit dug for a water pipeline on SMV Road in Kengeri.

Saddam Hussain, 20, who was driving, died on the spot while Umraz Pasha, 25, and Mubarak Pasha, who was also in his twenties, were battling for their lives in hospital.

The accident occurred when the trio riding triples on a scooter failed to notice the pit, causing the vehicle to plunge into the excavation site, police said. Witnesses transported the injured to a nearby private hospital.

Some residents blamed Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), for not securing the area around the pit. BWSSB had initiated work on laying a water pipeline under the Cauvery Stage V project. The board claimed that they had installed barricades around the pit.
