On the eve of Valentine's Day, People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India launched a unique campaign in
Bengaluru to promote veganism.
Dressed as "Valentine
angels" in red gowns and wings, PETA members will distribute red roses and
vegan ice cream scoops to passers-by at the World War Memorial on Brigade Road.
The aim of the campaign, titled
"Have a heart: try vegan," is to encourage people to show compassion
for animals by adopting a vegan lifestyle. The "angels" will hold
signs promoting the message and distribute informational leaflets about the
benefits of veganism for animals, health, and the environment.
PETA India Campaigns Coordinator
Atharva Deshmukh told Salar News, "Valentine's Day is a celebration of
love, and what better way to show love than by extending it to all living
beings, including the animals who suffer greatly in the meat and dairy industries?"
The campaign featured Keventers, a
popular ice cream brand known for its vegan offerings. Keventers received PETA
India's Best Vegan Ice Cream award in 2023, and the campaign will distribute
their vegan scoops to promote delicious and accessible plant-based
alternatives.
“The valentine’s angels are here
today at the War Memorial, ahead of Valentine's day to spread the message of
why it is so important to go vegan. With Valentine's day coming up tomorrow, it
is important that we extend the love beyond people and show it towards animals
as well.” said Sinchana S, who works in the corporate affairs department of
PETA India.
