The closure of Peenya Flyover in the City resulted in bottlenecks on one of the busiest and arterial roads on Wednesday. The flyover, shut down for load testing by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), has been inaccessible to traffic since 11 pm on Tuesday and will continue to remain closed until 19 January at 11 pm.

The flyover links 18 districts to the City. The closure created huge traffic jams on in Nelamangala, Dasarahalli, and Jalahalli Cross among other adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, traffic police ensured the smooth passage of ambulances operating on this stretch.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Siri Gowri said, “We request the commuters to avoid these roads. We have deployed staff from Malleswaram, Yeshwanthpur and Peenya police stations as we have asked 30 more police personnel to manage the traffic flow’’ she said.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invested Rs.38.5 crore in repair works including retrofitting measures. NHAI is now evaluating the quality of work through these tests. According to NHAI officials, the decision to allow heavy vehicles on the flyover will be made following road retention checks.  Salar News
